Financial support

R&D Cash Rebate Scheme
Provides private companies with cash rebate equivalent to 40% of their expenditure in R&D projects under the Innovation and Technology Fund and contract R&D projects funded by companies and undertaken by local universities/designated local public research institutions.

Enterprise Support Scheme
Provides private sector with funding of up to HK$10 million on a dollar-for-dollar matching basis for each individual approved R&D project.

Innovation and Technology Support Programme
Provides funding for R&D projects undertaken by designated local public research institutes and R&D Centres.

Partnership Research Programme
Provides funding for R&D projects undertaken by private companies in collaboration with local universities and public research institutions.

Guangdong – Hong Kong Technology Cooperation Funding Scheme
Provides funding for projects that demonstrate an element of Guangdong/Hong Kong cooperation, including projects which are solicited, vetted and funded solely by Hong Kong and Guangdong/Shenzhen, as well as projects which are jointly solicited, vetted and funded.

Midstream Research Programme for Universities
Supports theme-based midstream research conducted by the University Grants Committee-funded universities in key technology areas for further downstream research or development of new products. Funding ceiling for each standalone project is HK$5 million, and HK$10 million for projects involving multiple disciplines or research institutions.

Public Sector Trial Scheme
Provides funding support for production of prototypes and samples as well as conducting of trial schemes in the public sector. The scheme covers R&D projects under Innovation and Technology Fund, as well as R&D results of incubatees and graduate tenants of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Cyberport.

Set up in 2006 to drive and coordinate applied R&D in selected focus area and to promote commerialisation of R&D results and technology transfer.
