The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong, began his visit to Beijing today (January 16).
Professor Sun paid a courtesy call on the Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Mr Zhang Yaping. He briefed Mr Zhang on key elements in the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology (I&T) Development Blueprint and gave an overview on the latest I&T development of Hong Kong. Professor Sun also thanked the CAS for its staunch support for Hong Kong’s I&T development and the promotion of scientific research exchanges and co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong. Both sides discussed on work of the Hong Kong Institute of Science & Innovation of the CAS and the Greater Bay Area Association of Academicians; the future development of joint laboratories of the CAS and higher education institutions in Hong Kong; as well as work of promoting the participation of Hong Kong education institutions and scientific research organisations in exchange activities for technology talent and youth organised by the CAS. Both parties reached consensus on a number of development strategies.
Professor Sun then visited the Institute of Automation of the CAS and received a briefing on the institute’s achievements in the artificial intelligence (AI) area and relevant commercialisation projects. He also learned about the institute’s development directions and strengths in areas of neuroscience, 3D reconstruction, medical robots, multimodal AI and industrial vision smart devices. He then visited the Center for Research on Intelligent Perception and Computing and was briefed on the Center’s research and development (R&D) achievements, representative applications and core technologies.
Professor Sun will continue his visit in Beijing tomorrow (January 17).
